The Fairbanks Rescue Mission was founded to provide service to the poor, needy, homeless and transient population of Fairbanks.  The Mission tries to meet both spiritual and physical needs in helping people to be restored to a correct relationship with God and a productive relationship with society.  As an arm of the Christian church, the Mission ministers to the least, the last and the lost.

Men’s Recovery Program is open to those who have a sincere desire for a Fresh Start.  The program of Biblical training and self-discipline through a full daily schedule is designed to start a person on the road to recovery including helping to find a job and teaching job survival skills.  See Men’s Chaplain for more information.

Women’s Recovery Program.  This recovery program is for women with or without children.  Unique to Fairbanks it centers on an individual contract for each woman entering the program.  See the Women’s Chaplain for more information.

Public Meals are served three times each day.  Breakfast is 7:15 a.m. (8:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and announced holidays).  Lunch chapel begins at 12 noon with the meal immediately following.  Dinner chapel begins at

6 p.m. with the meal immediately following.  The meals are as nice and nutritious as is possible within the constraints of budget and donations.

Overnight Shelter is available in the men’s and women’s shelters.  The all night desk is housed in the men’s shelter.  If there is an unforeseen emergency after hours for a man or woman, the Mission can help.  Call (452-5343) and the man on the desk can answer any questions.  We are a short-term shelter but will work with people on longer terms.

The Learning Center is computer-enhanced and can take a person who does not even know the alphabet all the way through GED preparation and on into some college level classes.  Besides the academic areas, there are modules to help people learn life skills (so they can stand on their feet), computer training, as well as other job training modules.

Children’s Day Room.  A unique shelter experience is providing a learning environment for children who are sheltered here with their parents.  The toddlers’ playroom makes a unique learning center and an outside playground is being added to enhance the experience of these little ones.  Mothers are helped and encouraged to get school-age children into school as a way of providing stability and normalcy into young lives.

Free Clothing vouchers for men, women and children is available through our Thrift Store, Two Good to Be Threw.  There are several other agencies in town that uses this voucher system.

Volunteers are special to the Mission because they are people that give themselves to the poor and needy of the community without any kind of payment.  Volunteers come with many skills and so it is hard to list all the different ways volunteers can be used.  Several areas of continuing service are:

·         Holiday meals and special events

·         Answering phones during day or evening hours

·         Church groups assuming responsibility for evening meal

·         Grounds keeping.
